EAGLE5 S offers more processing power and space with low power consumption.

EAGLE5 S is perfect if you want more power and storage space in your EAGLE but still want a compact system with low power consumption. The EAGLE5 S offers the performance of a desktop computer, with an average power consumption of just 1A, so it can still be powered by a compact field battery - but offers more than 2 times the performance of the EAGLE4, making the EAGLE5 S the model with the best price/performance ratio among the EAGLE models.

The 11th generation Intel i3 processor with only 15W TDP and 6MB cache delivers desktop-class performance with low power consumption. EAGLE5 S offers three USB 3.2 Type-A ports, two USB 4 ports (with type-C connector, one is Thunderbolt 4 and one is Thunderbolt 3) with data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps, as well as five USB 2.0 ports, two HDMI ports 2.0b, a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port and WiFi 6 802.11ax connectivity.

EAGLE5 S also adds incredibly fast and powerful Thunderbolt 4 and 3 ports with USB-C type connector that enable connections up to 40 Gbps with more connectivity options. Compared to a standard USB port, USB-C/Thunderbolt adds many additional features:
- Speed : While USB 3.0 is up to 5Gbps, the Thunderbolt 4/3 port offers speeds of up to 40Gbps
- Power : Thunderbolt 4 port provides up to 100W, Thunderbolt 3 up to 15W
- Connectivity : You can connect many devices such as external drives, displays, multi-port docking stations, audio devices, etc. Allows you to connect up to 6 devices, connected in series, through a single compact port. Since it has a USB-C type connector, the cable is reversible, so there's no wrong way to connect it. If you have a standard USB-C device, you can connect it to the Thunderbolt 3 port (in this case the maximum speed will be 10 Gbps).

The built-in inclinometer sensor in EAGLE5 S measures the telescope's elevation relative to the horizon, with a resolution of 0.1 degrees (and an average measured error of less than 1 degree). Tilt data is shown in real time in the EAGLE Manager facing the sky), you can also remotely check whether your telescope is pointed at the correct elevation, whether the equatorial mount's elevation setting is set correctly for your latitude, or whether the altazimuth mount's home position is set correctly in elevation.

While recording a sequence, you may have one of your images blurry while the others are clear: many external factors such as wind gusts or cable detachments can affect the correct tracking of the telescope during a capture. The Motion Detector shows unwanted movements in EAGLE Manager X without confusing them with mount tracking or fast pointing movements. This way PLAY (or third-party software that supports Motion Detector) can automatically repeat the last image if EAGLE detects unexpected motion.

EAGLE5 S is supplied with the special "EAGLE Manager

• Enable/disable each 12V power port : This way you can keep all your devices connected (e.g. mount, camera, filter wheel, etc.) and activate them remotely when you turn on the entire system.
• Check power consumption : Allows you to see how much current each 12V device powered by EAGLE consumes and shows the total current consumption, thus providing the best way to monitor the power of your system.
• Rename USB and power ports : You can rename each port with the name of the connected device, to control it more easily or to save the COM port number associated with a specific device.
• View GPS data : latitude, longitude, altitude, date, time and number of connected satellites
• View sky quality EYE : Select the sensor pointing to the sky and view the sky quality value
• Set the voltage of the 3 power supply ports 0-12V : increase or decrease the power supply to the anti-condensation bands connected to EAGLE. Each port displays power consumption which can be monitored over time.
• View the Inclinometer data to check the elevation of your telescope relative to the horizon.
• Show Motion Detector data and view whether unwanted movements are recorded.
• Activate DARK mode : this turns off all LED lights.
• Connect or disconnect devices connected to the 4 USB 2.0 ABCD ports : this feature is also convenient in the event of a temporary crash of an autoguiding or planetary camera, which can then be restored without the need to go to the telescope and disconnect/reconnect the cable.
• Set the wireless or wired connection : shows the IP address that you can use in the remote desktop to access your EAGLE in AP mode (use your smartphone, tablet or external computer by connecting directly to the EAGLE without the need for a WiFi router) or mode HOST to connect to your pre-existing network such as the WiFi one at home, even with a wired connection.
• Set power routines : you can define the status of the "After power on" and "Before shut down" ports for devices connected to EAGLE. This way, for example, you can automatically turn on all your devices after starting EAGLE and turn them all off when you turn off EAGLE.
• Automatically connect the optional ECCO controller : if you have the environmental module, EAGLE Manager
• Save EAGLE sensor data for later processing : the data from the various sensors are saved in log files directly on your EAGLE so you can download them later.

In the modern world there are many operating systems that do a great job. But, when it comes to astronomy software and drivers, most run on Windows. This is why EAGLE uses Windows, so you can connect the devices you prefer to EAGLE (as manufacturers provide official drivers for Windows 10/11) and install the Windows software you prefer (it just has to be compatible with Windows 10/11): anything that you can install it on your normal Windows 10/11 computer at home, you can install it on EAGLE. This way you are no longer tied to a particular company in their hardware and can easily customize EAGLE the way you want. EAGLE5 uses Windows 11 IoT Enterprise license which is lighter and more stable than traditional PCs with Windows 11 Home or other OEM versions pre-installed with unnecessary bloatware.

Performance comparison with a miniPC.

Not only does EAGLE offer exclusive features for advanced astrophotography but also all the power of a real computer (superior to a Mini PC) to allow you to use any astrophotography software. To test its performance we used the PCMark benchmark and compared EAGLE LE, EAGLE4, EAGLE5 S, EAGLE5 PRO and EAGLE5 comparability of results). As you can see in the image below, EAGLE4/LE offers 32% more performance than a common Mini PC with Intel Celeron N3160 processor, 4GB of RAM and SSD disk; EAGLE5 S further increases the gap, bringing this difference to 183%. EAGLE5 PRO boosts everything to +231% and the faster EAGLE5 XTM takes everything to an incredible +316%!
