Product Description
Ares-C Pro camera (IMX533) is developed by Player One Astronomy, it is not only great for DSO imaging, but also can do solar and lunar imaging. Ares-C Pro camera, which it adopts Sony IMX533 1 "square format color sensor . The pixel size of 3.76 um hosts a depth of 73Ke with a total of 9 MP (resolution is 3008 * 3008 ) e the diagonal is of 16mm .
STARVIS technology
Ares-C Pro (IMX533) technology-based camera Sony STARVIS , is the back-illuminated pixel technology used in CMOS image sensors.
Format
The Ares-C Pro camera has a 1" format, this size is large enough for imaging.
Attractions
Cutting-edge design
The cooled Ares series starts with a new design! This time with a round body, a classic red and black color scheme and using carbon fiber to keep the weight down and the outlook cutting edge. We also integrated the sensor flipper plate and anti-dew PCB board. This series of designs make the camera not only light and cool, but also functional!
3P front and 4P rear tilt plate
When shooting deep sky objects, the sensor tilt plate can be used to adjust the tilt angle of the sensor to make the stars appear more rounded at the corners. Ares camera provides both front and rear flip plate to meet all usage scenarios.
The front 3P tilt plate is the default part on the camera, we feel most users have experience with this before. It works well in many basic scenarios.
The 4P Rear Sliding Plate it is an alternative part for camera, when you use filter wheel/filter drawer and OAG with fixed angel, it is necessary. And it is also convenient for RASA users to adjust the tilt angle of the sensor.
The built-in high-density sponge shade pad can block the light from the side slits without side leakage.
Carbon fiber and light weight
The Ares series uses a carbon fiber in the camera and has been optimized for weight reduction in its structural design. The camera weighs just 420 grams, making it one of the lightest models on the market.
Deep cooling
Player One cooled camera series uses 2-stage TEC cooling unit, after improving the structure design to repel heat into the camera chamber, the camera Delta-T can reach i 35-40 °C .
Anti-dew heater
In designing lightweight cooled camera, Player One still pursues perfection, all necessary features must have, especially anti-dew system, is the problem that many small cooled camera ignored.
Full well
Ares-C Pro camera has full 73Ke, it is almost 1.5 times than IMX533 Basic (50ke).
Frame rate
The Ares-C Pro camera can run 43FPS in RAW8 mode, which is much faster than existing models on the market.
Double sampling mode
The Ares series has a dual sampling mode. Normal mode and LRN mode, have different advantages in imaging.
1. The normal mode has faster FPS, is more suitable for planetary imaging.
2. The LRN mode (low noise of readout) has lower readout noise and higher dynamic range. it is more suitable for DSO imaging.
512MB DDR3 cache
As an improvement, DDR3 cache in cooled cameras is increased to 512MB. It helps stabilize and secure data transmission, effectively avoid frame drop, and greatly reduce read noise.
With DDR3 cache, the camera no longer has high processing demands, it will still have excellent performance even when connected to a USB 2.0 port.
Type-C data port and power port
The back of the cooled camera has 2 Type-C data ports and 12V DC 5.5×2.1mm power port.
The main data port supports USB3.0 protocol, the camera can run 43fps in RAW8 mode. The Type-C port is easier to connect when assembling imaging equipment at night.
When recording images, because the actual write speed will be affected by the write speed of the hard disk itself, when the write speed of the hard disk is slow, the recording may not reach the theoretical speed. It is recommended that you use a high-quality solid-state drive to record data and fully reproduce the camera's performance.
The camera has a 12V DC5.5*2.1mm port to supply enough power to the TEC cooling system. If you don't need to turn on the cooling, just plug in the main Type-C port, the camera will work as an uncooled camera.
Standard use of cables
Anti-dew heater and cooling system
In the ASCOM window, we provide 3 adjustable parameters: target temperature, fan speed and dew power.
Standard deltas: 35°C -40°C, temperature ambient 30°C, fan speed 100%, dew heater 1%.
Recommend Delta-T settings : 30°C -35 °C below ambient, fan speed 50-70 %, dew heater 10%, power consumption 40-60%.
The rotation speed of the cooling fan is also adjustable default is 50% speed.
The dew problem is the biggest enemy in astro imaging, the built-in dew heater in front of the camera. The heat output is adjustable.
Overvoltage and overcurrent protection mechanism
Player One cameras manufactured by the number one player ensure the safety of the camera and other equipment through over-voltage and over-current protection mechanisms.
Performance
HCG open to gain = 125.
Reading noise
As for the read noise, we solemnly promise that all values are obtained from real tests. And for users, Sharpcap 4 can be used for testing. SC4 has a function called Sensor Analysis , provides a very simple way to test read noise.
We wrote a tutorial on our site: https://player-one-astronomy.com/service/manuals/
If you are interested in reading noise tests, you can try it yourself, which is very simple.
Dark current
The dark current is only 0.000044e/s/pix at -20°C and 0.000996e/s/pix at 0°C. In the whole curve, the dark current is almost like a straight line, which can show that the Ares camera has very good quality and stable performance.

BFL Solutions
Below is a recommended 55mm BFL solution for this camera. If you don't consider BFL, the way of connection is varied.
