THE VMC260L OPTIC: MC INDICATES MAKSUTOV-CASSEGRAIN. TO BE PRECISE THE TELESCOPE IS A FIELD MAKSUTOV CASSEGRAIN. IN THIS VERSION, SPECIAL CORRECTION LENSES ARE FITTED IN FRONT OF THE SECONDARY MIRROR. THESE ALLOW THE SECONDARY MIRROR TO BE GRINDED SPHERICALLY INSTEAD OF PARABOLIC OR HYPERBOLIC, WHICH IS MUCH CHEAPER AND MORE ACCURATE. IN ADDITION, THE CORRECTION LENSES ALLOW YOU TO FORGIVE THE CORRECTION PLATE AT THE FRONT END OF THE TUBE.
THIS SPECIAL DESIGN FROM JAPANESE TELESCOPES MANUFACTURER VIXEN COMBINES THE ADVANTAGES OF MAKSUTOV OPTICS WITH THOSE OF SCHMIDT-CASSEGRAIN. THE TUBE IS EXTREMELY COMPACT, RELATIVELY LIGHTWEIGHT AND HAS AN IDEAL POSITION FOR VIEWING THROUGH THE EYEPIECE OR OTHER ACCESSORIES. BECAUSE NO SCHMIDT PLATES ARE USED, THE TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION WITH THE AMBIENT IS RAPID AND EVEN THE CONDENSATION OF THE DEW IS NOT A PROBLEM. THE REQUIRED SECONDARY MIRROR STAND HAS FOUR POSTS WITH A THICKNESS OF ONLY 1.3 MILLIMETERS WHICH DOES NOT ADVERSELY AFFECT THE QUALITY OF THE IMAGE DURING ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY.
THE LONG FOCAL LENGTH MAKES THE TELESCOPE AN IDEAL INSTRUMENT FOR THE MOON AND PLANETS, BUT ITS LARGE APERTURE COLLECTS ENOUGH LIGHT FOR PROFESSIONAL OBSERVING AND DEEPSKY OBJECT PHOTOGRAPHY.
THE VMC260L'S DIELECTRIC COATED MIRRORS PROVIDE HIGH BRIGHTNESS AND GREAT SHARPNESS.
WITH THE OPTIONAL REDUCER THE FAL RATIO CAN BE REDUCED TO 1:7. THIS LEADS TO SHORTER EXPOSURE TIMES FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AND A WIDER FIELD OF VIEW. AN ADDITIONAL CORRECTOR IS NEEDED IN THIS TELESCOPE.
THE EQUIPMENT INCLUDES A DOVETAIL BAR AND A PRACTICAL CARRYING HANDLE WHICH CAN ALSO BE USED AS A SUPPORT FOR THE CAMERA FOR STAR FIELD PHOTOGRAPHS.
