Ultra Light Dobson 500mm GENERATION II - a hand made telescope in HUNGARY and GERMANY

No type of telescope has changed amateur astronomy as much as Dobsonian telescopes. Prior to John Dobson's introduction of the Dobsonian telescope, the vast majority of amateur telescopes consisted of small, primitive-mechanical optical telescopes, just enough to divine the polar caps of Mars or the rings of Saturn. Larger telescopes, such as Schmidt-Cassegrains, were reserved for a wealthy clientele. The ingenious combination of simple but effective mechanics with the largest possible aperture gave the Dobsonian telescope a unique triumphal march in the world. Nowhere do you get as much light for your money as with a good dobsonian. We took into account the principle "Holded together by gravity and driven by the power of yogurt" (powered by gravity and fueled by the energy of yogurt) and created a completely redesigned modern Dobsonian telescope with a truss tube . The disassembly of the device allows the problem-free transport of this large device even in small cars - the structure is completely without tools in a few minutes . The entire construction has been optimized for maximum stiffness and minimum weight. The combination of high-height wheels with an optimized aluminum sandwich construction enables the best correction movements at maximum magnifications. The focus position has already been prepared for the use of our Komakorrektor (item no. 0510330) . The ideal workhorse for the deep sky observer. A device with a mirror diameter of 500mm collects more than 5100 times as much light as the naked eye . The details on the planets are visible even to untrained observers, and countless deep-sky objects show texture and even color . The brilliant star clusters are resolved to the core and the sight of the Terminator on the moon becomes an unforgettable experience .

The fast 20" f3.6 primary mirror and large 120mm secondary mirror are made of high-quality quartz , which minimizes cooling time , and the Dobsonian is ready for use in a short time . Each primary mirror comes with an individual optical test certificate All optical surfaces feature a high quality aluminum coating with 94% reflectivity and an extremely durable quartz protection layer , meaning that the main mirror will withstand frequent wetting and cleaning by occasionally damage and ensures a long life .

A complete redesign of this Dobsonian was required to ensure the significantly increased stiffness and load requirements for the optical components . All tube structure connections were made by TIG welding and the rivets and screws were omitted. Thus, we have managed to produce this 20" lightweight Dobsonian so incredibly torsionally stiff despite its low weight - remarkably good quality is second to none . The production of almost all mechanical components takes place at our partners in Hungary and the assembly final optics plus final quality control takes place in Germany at the Rhede site .

The two very popular equipment details of the smaller Dobson models were naturally adopted and even significantly expanded. First, of course, is the excellent disassembly and portability . Without tools, assembly and disassembly can be done . The main and secondary mirrors are adjustable during observation and only two adjustment screws need to be moved. The use of precision ball heads in the primary mirror cell and a precision hinge for the secondary mirror adjustment ensures absolutely smooth adjustment and excellent collimation stability . All connecting parts of Tubusstreben now reference CNC milled aluminum and are received backlash-free by means of stainless steel mounting bolts. Now the secondary mirror can also be adjusted by adjusting the screws in the direction of the optical axis. Here comes a tried and tested 2.5" HEXAFOC focuser with 1:10 fine adjustment. Used - this allows vignetting-free observation despite the fast aperture ratio. A 40° second offset . conjunction with a favorable position finderscope or the installation of an additional Telrad sight .6 balance feet provide better stability, and ensure uniform tracking in azimuth .4 smaller in the mirror box fan and a large one installed under the main mirror fan mounted on the side, they allow a still rapid adaptation to the ambient temperature and reduce the seeing in the optical path (boundary layer removal). The side bearings share can now fit comfortably in the foam inserts of the mirror box shop.

Last but not least, a special gimmick: the optical tube including the mirror cell is mechanically designed to work on a heavy equatorial mount!

Transport dimensions for mobile use:

Rockerbox 678mmx678mmx347mm; Mirror box 590mmx590mmx361mm; Bar length about 1084mm; Height display in zenith approx. 1.63 m; 20" total weight: 53kg; 20" mirror box with wheels height: 35.8kg; 20" Top with Secondary Mirror: 3.8kg; Rockerbox Bottom: 10.6kg; 20" 4 Pairs of Posts: 2.8kg; Main mirror weight: 20kg

NOTE : Current product photos show prototype. At the suggestion of our customers, a number of improvements have been implemented which still require updating.
