ASI294MM - Even more powerful backlit MONOCHROME sensor!
The new ZWO ASI294MM PRO camera is the first camera in the world to use the monochrome Sony IMX294 sensor
This new Sony sensor is the first sensor for monochrome astronomical cameras to use the 4/3" format and to have an output of pixels necessary to support the 4K format at 120 fps (ADC 10bit output mode).
Furthermore, using a large pixel achieves SNR1s of 0.14 lx*, very close to the value of ASI224 (0.13 lx*).
Unlike its smaller sister ASI1600, this new camera has a back-illuminated sensor (BSI) which allows it to reach QE of up to 75%.
Exceptional low-light performance SNR1s: 0.14lx
This is achieved by using a large optical system and expanding the area per pixel to 4.63 microns; which makes the monochromatic IMX294 sensor ideal for astronomical applications where high performance is required even at low illumination.
Camera performance
Large well depth capability, low readout noise and high dynamic range.
The full capacity of the 66387e well of ASI294MM Pro is almost the top of all ASI DSO cameras. It ensures a very high dynamic range of up to 13 stops which will greatly reduce the problem of overexposed images and will also help gather richer color information.
When the gain value is set to 120, the HCG high gain mode is activated. We're not saying it's magic... but we'd like to think it's pretty close. With HCG mode activated, readout noise is significantly reduced and dynamic range remains essentially unchanged.
